Caroline and Sam's Summer WeddingThe theme for Caroline & Sam was a traditional country wedding. |
Caroline & Sam both lived and worked in Southampton, Sam was a skipper on a boat at the time and they met through mutual friends.
Caroline & Sam were living in the Caribbean when Sam proposed. “We were both due to move back to the UK, but I had to fly home earlier to start my new job. We were spending our last 2 weeks together, before spending six weeks apart. Sam booked us a table at a gorgeous restaurant, which had amazing views of the Charlotte Amalie harbour. After the starter, Sam produced a ring from his pocket and asked me to marry him - of course I said yes straight away!”
Caroline and Sam wanted to get married in the country, as that's where they'd been brought up."Upwaltham Barns was the second venue we looked at and I knew it was the one, the moment I walked through into the courtyard. It has such a homely feel and I knew that we could really make it 'our' place for the day." They booked Upwaltham Barns a year in advance.

Caroline’s dress was a Spanish embroidered tulle bridal gown. Fitted and flared with a strapless neckline and chapel train. The dress was worn with a tiara, veil, necklace, pearl earrings and shoes. Caroline's two bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses, one in lilac and one in brown. The flowers for the bouquets and decorations consisted of agapanthus, sweet peas, lavender and white roses.
Sam, his bestmen and usher all wore Arundel suits with lilac cravats hired from Moss Bros.
The barn was decorated with ivy and tea lights were put on the walls. The table centrepieces were lavender plants in terracotta pots with ivory sashes around them. The tables were sprinkled with purple hearts confetti and just married Lovehearts were put on the tables for the guests.
Caroline's Mum made their wedding cake. It was a two tier fruit cake with smooth white icing and lilac ribbon around each tier. A lilac flower arrangement sat on the top.

We asked Caroline if they had learned anything that was an important tip for future wedding couples; “Enjoy every moment. Take a step back and have a few minutes on your own with your new husband to take everything in, otherwise you'll spend months organising and looking forward to the day and it's gone in a flash. Also, if you're going to cut the budget on anything, make sure it's not the photographer. The photos and memories are something that stays with you for life!”
