How do I contact the registrar to book my ceremony?

To have a civil wedding ceremony at Upwaltham Barns you will need to give notice for your wedding and book your registrars to conduct the ceremony. The phone number for West Sussex Registrar’s Office is 01243 642122 and their email is [email protected]. We are legally unable to do this on your behalf.

Do you have a microphone and speakers we can use?

We have one microphone in the South barn. There are speakers in each barn which can be used for background music only. Please speak to your wedding coordinator after booking to discuss how to connect your phone.

Do you have a ladder we can use?

We do have one step ladder on site which can be used. However please note that this may need to be shared with your suppliers on the morning of your wedding.

Do we need wedding insurance?

We strongly advise that all our wedding couples take out wedding insurance. This covers any unplanned situations and any damages to the venue which you may be charged for.

Is the venue ours for the whole day?

Upwaltham Barns is exclusively yours from 12noon until 12midnight on the day of your wedding.

Are we allowed confetti?

We live in an area of outstanding natural beauty and only allow the use of real petals for confetti. Please note that the use of any other type of confetti including confetti cannons or bombs is strictly forbidden anywhere at Upwaltham Barns.

Can we bring our dog?

We love dogs and understand many people want to include their beloved pets as part of their wedding day. If you are planning on including your dog, please let us know so we can send you some additional information as there are some restrictions on where dogs are allowed.

We ask that any children under the age of 16 are supervised by either a named responsible person or a childcare company. Please see our recommended suppliers here.

Can we play ball games?

To maintain a safe environment for everyone, ball games are not allowed, and a responsible adult must supervise children at play at all times.

Can we have sparklers & fireworks?

The use of sparklers and fireworks is only allowed during the winter months, from the beginning of November until the end of March each year. This will ensure that it is dark by early evening. The use of sparklers will need to be no later than 8.30 pm and fireworks must be organised through one of our recommended suppliers and finished by 10.45 pm.

Are we allowed real candles?

Tealights and candles can be used in both barns if they are placed in deep glass holders so that the flame is well below the rim. Any bare tall candles or candelabras should be designed to catch the wax to allow the candles to burn down safely. Only non-drip candles must be used. Uncovered candles are not permitted in either the Stable Bar or along the aisle or placed on the floor of the East Barn. In these locations, covered lanterns are recommended.

We would like to come for a revisit after booking – how do we arrange this?
