Stuart and Ian’s fun and fabulous spring wedding

Grooms and bridesmaids at Upwaltham Barns

Stuart and Ian’s spring wedding at Upwaltham Barns was everything they wanted it to be – a fabulous and fun wedding day that all of their invited guests would remember at a venue with the wow factor.

Finding ‘the one’

Upwaltham Barns seems to capture the imagination of everyone who visits and it was no different when Stuart and Ian came for their show round:

“We did have a list of three venues to visit and Upwaltham Barns was the first one on our shortlist. We just knew when we arrived that we didn’t need to see the rest. We fell for everything about it and the whole look and feel of the venue was just what we wanted. We had no doubts at all that our guests would all feel at home on the day.” – Ian

Styling Upwaltham Barns

Whilst Stuart and Ian didn’t work to a specific theme for their wedding, they knew that they wanted to plan a wedding that their guests would still be talking about in many years to come:

“Without question, the aim was always to have fun and create a day to remember whether that was the afternoon tea, the live band or the photo booth from Horsebox Photo Booth. We made the bunting in The South Barn and the table decorations. These followed the main design which stemmed from the save the date cards. We also had a chalkboard ‘Order of the Day’ in the courtyard for our guests.” – Stuart

“We both wore blue suits so all the colours were a mix of blues to match. Our ushers wore buttonholes and the groomsmaids carried hand held posies by Fleurs of Horsham. Each table was decorated with matching flowers in jam jars.” – Ian

Dressing for the occasion

The fantastic blue colours of the day were picked out in Stuart and Ian’s suits and both added a few little twists to their outfits too:

“We knew that we definitely wanted blue suits and we found the perfect ones in Next. They were blue but changed in the light from being quite a dark blue to having a shiny glaze in the sunlight. We both wore brown shoes and Ian added blue laces to his to match his suit.” – Stuart

Stuart also added a bowtie to his ensemble while Ian wore a more traditional tie. The couple’s ushers wore the same blue suits whilst the groomsmaids looked amazing in colour coordinating dresses from ASOS.

“We wanted our groomsmaids to have something stylish to wear and we bought them Pandora bracelets as a little gift too.” – Ian

The couple served canapés to their guests and everyone loved the selection of lamb koftas, prawn and chorizo skewers and mini Yorkshire puddings filled with beef and topped with horseradish.

“Then it was time for afternoon tea. We’d worked closely with Nibbles 2 Nosh and chose a whole range of sandwiches, pork pies and nibbles and these were followed with lots of cake! We served lemon drizzle cake, mini Victoria sponges, chocolate éclairs and, of course, scones with cream and jam. It was absolutely delicious.” – Ian

And that wasn’t the end of the edible treats because in the evening, the couple organised for a fish and chip van to provide guests with the extra energy they needed because the dancefloor was packed all evening thanks to a brilliant band:

“Our evening entertainment was just fantastic. Our live band, The Hotrocks, was our first choice and we knew from the offset that they’d provide everything we wanted. We were right and our guests were over the moon with them too.” – Stuart.

Wedding tips and advice:

“For us, the whole day was everything we wanted. The atmosphere, the guests’ comments really made us feel that we achieved what we wanted.” – Stuart.

“There’s nothing we’d do differently at all but for anyone else planning their wedding, we’d say plan ahead! We did all of our preparation and ordering of decorations well in advance so there were no last-minute surprises. A really thorough spreadsheet helps too!” – Ian.
